Ideas For Making Handmade Gardening Cards

Hi everyone.

It’s almost the end of March and Spring has sprung although with the amount of rain and gale force winds we are having here in the UK, it’s not quite living up to the hype!

But hopefully better weather and lighter nights are on the way which means you might be hoping to get into your garden, if you are lucky enough to have one, of course. But even if you aren’t keen on gardening yourself, you probably know someone who is. Creating cards that appeal to your gardening family and friends can be an original and thoughtful way to celebrate their special occasions or even just to let them know that you are thinking about them.

So here are three card ideas which are perfect for those green-fingered recipients. All the sentiments I’ve used, along with several alternatives, can be instantly downloaded and then printed out as many times as you like from my Etsy shop by simply clicking here:

I Really Dig You

  1. Cut a spade shape out of Kraft card. You can find plenty of free images to download and print out to use as a template at https://pixabay.com
  2. Cover the front of a blank tent-fold card with Kraft card or fold and score an A4 sheet of Kraft card to create your own card blank.
  3. Cut a piece of green backing paper in a slightly smaller size and attach to the front of the card leaving a small border as shown.
  4. Cut a square of patterned paper and attach to the centre of the card.
  5. Attach the spade to the card with foam pads or tape.
  6. Cut out the sentiment from the printable sheet or create one of your own and attach it to a small scrap of Kraft card.
  7. Use foam tape or pads to attach to the card as shown.
  8. Add five small buttons and a piece of twine to finish.

Where Flowers Bloom So Does Hope

  1. Attach a piece of plain coloured paper to the front of a white tent-fold card blank.
  2. Cut three simple flower shapes from co-ordinating floral patterned paper and attach them as shown to a piece of white card which is slightly smaller than the card blank.
  3. Draw or paint a stem for each flower.
  4. Attach the white card to the card front leaving a small border as shown.
  5.  Cut the sentiment from the printable sheet into a tag shape or create your own and attach it to the stem of the middle flower.
  6. Use the patterned paper to cut out smaller flowers to decorate the rest of the card front.
  7. Add four pearls to finish.

It's Your Birthday And You Can Garden If You Want To!

  1. Attach a piece of plain coloured paper or card to the front of a square card blank.
  2. Cut out a piece of contrasting plain card or paper and attach to the front of the card leaving  a small border as shown.
  3. Download and print a free image such as the one above from https://pixabay.com
  4. Cut the image out and attach it to the front of the card.
  5. Cut out some blades of grass from a downloaded image, a magazine picture or draw and colour your own. Attach to the card front.
  6. Cut out the sentiment from the printable sheet or create your own. Attach to a scrap of co-ordinating card and attach to the card with foam pads or tape.

I hope you have fun trying out these ideas and here's hoping that the weather soon gets better for gardening.

Happy Crafting!
